Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?:
I chose the apprenticeship because I want to build stronger leadership skills while still working in care. It helps me understand policies, safeguarding, and how to support my team more confidently. This qualification also gives me a clear pathway to progress in my career and improve the quality of care I provide.
What are you enjoying most about your apprenticeship?:
I am really enjoying how the Level 4 apprenticeship is building my confidence and helping me understand leadership on a deeper level. I like that I can apply what I learn straight away in my workplace, especially around safeguarding, person centred care, and supporting my team. I also enjoy the reflective work because it helps me see my progress and recognise how much I am growing as a leader.
What has been the most useful part of your apprenticeship/what have you learned?:
The most useful part of my apprenticeship has been the learning I’ve gained through my interactions with my tutor. I’ve learned new terms like cuckooing and county lines, and I now have a much deeper understanding of women and child abuse, including how these issues appear within the police services. I’ve also developed stronger knowledge about how to care for residents safely and professionally, along with the policies, Acts, and regulations that guide my role in adult care. All of this has helped me grow in confidence and improve my practice as a leader.
What do you plan to do next when you’ve completed your apprenticeship?:
After completing my apprenticeship, I plan to continue growing within my role at the care home by taking on more leadership responsibilities whenever opportunities come up. I want to use the knowledge I’ve gained especially around safeguarding, policies, and supporting staff to strengthen the team and improve the quality of care for our residents. While I wait for a formal leadership position to become available, I will keep practising good work ethics, mentoring colleagues, and applying what I’ve learned to everyday situations in the care home.
What would you say to someone who is thinking of doing an apprenticeship?:
I would tell them that an apprenticeship is a great opportunity. You learn while you work, and you become fully equipped with the knowledge and skills you need to grow as a leader. It builds your confidence, strengthens your practice, and gives you real understanding that you can use every day in your role.
